Religious and Education Leaders Try to Beat Back Message of ISIS to the Youngest Recruits

As the terrorist organization ISIS grows and recruits members in the U.S through social media, many American-Muslims are leading discussions with their community to clarify that the extremist group violates fundamental principles of Islam.

The group, which has drawn the United States back into limited military action in the Middle East, grew in the national conscience following several beheadings, including that of Northwestern University alum and journalist James Foley. Additionally, ISIS has been compared to U.S. gangs that crudely use the media and technology to spread their message and recruit the most vulnerable.
